This year The Long Walk Women's Luncheon celebrated our journeys – the journey of the women who walked to Canberra, The Long Walk's journey to charity status, and the journeys of women who demonstrate that leadership happens in the Indigenous community through our everyday working lives, cultural practice and family business.
Guest Speakers
Karen Atkinson
Karen Atkinson is a nurse and midwife with experience ranging from acute surgical, aged care and cardiac services through to midwifery including continuity of care models. She has held a number of positions in both acute, aged care and primary services including Corrections Victoria.
She has been instrumental in establishing a number of services for Aboriginal women including the Bamin Boorai Service at Western Health in 2004.
Karen has been the recipient of the National Nursing Care Awards (HESTA) in 2005 recognising her services to nursing and midwifery excellence.
Karen is the Victorian representative on the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses Executive Committee and has sat on a number of health related committees throughout her career.
Karen is a single mother of one, registered foster carer of many children over a number of years, and all round earth mother.
She is a Yorta Yorta and Bangerang woman who is committed to improving health services for all Aboriginal People.
Tammy Hunter
Tammy is a Wurundjeri woman and works as an Indigenous Community Engagement Broker for Aboriginal Affairs Victoria, Department of Planning and Community Development, developing Local Indigenous Networks within the North Western metropolitan Region. Tammy's vision is to build stronger partnerships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Tammy's career has been in Indigenous land management and cultural heritage until recently. Tammy's greatest achievements are her daughter Georgia Mae, being a recipient of the 2007/2008 Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship and entering the 2007 Australian National Taekwondo Championships for which she won a Gold Medal. Tammy serves on the Koori Women Mean Business Board, Hume Indigenous Advisory Committee, and Indigenous Education Centre Advisory Committee at Broadmeadows TAFE. She has also completed Diplomas in Frontline Management and Community Development with Swinburne and Koorie Women Mean Business as well as the Woman's Indigenous Leadership Course through FACSIA in 2007.

Kylie Belling
Kylie is a Yorta Yorta/Wiradjurri woman born and raised in Melbourne.
She is a qualified secondary school teacher as well as a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts School of Drama. Kylie has been actively involved with the Victorian Indigenous community for much of her adult life, working for a number of peak state-wide Koori community and government organisations in the fields of education, health, arts and culture, and now justice where she is currently a Project Officer for the Indigenous Issues Unit of the Department of Justice.
Kylie is an accomplished Actor and entertainer, having performed in numerous film, television and theatre productions in a career spanning over 20 years. She was a co-founder and Artistic Director of Ilbijerri Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Co-operative and is a Deadly Award for Outstanding Achievement in Literature; a Koori Women Mean Business Arts Award and Sidney Myer Performing Arts Indigenous Individual Award recipient. She sites her greatest production achievement as her seventeen year old daughter Sofii Claire Domini Yolka Belling-Harding.

Liz Cavanagh Big Band
Liz Cavanagh has established herself as one of Australia's versatile Indigenous vocalists. Her funky jazz ensemble takes you on a cultural musical journey.
Their interpretation of Australian pop and Indigenous tunes not only reflects a jazz sensibility but also makes a statement that captures the essence of Australian music.
Funds raised through the Women's Luncheon contribute to The Long Walk 2009 funding program. This program assists projects that improve the wellbeing of Indigenous Australians.
