2011 Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership Announcements

The Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership announced Professor Ian Anderson as Fellow and Jody Saxton-Barney and Nathan Lovett-Murray as Emerging Leaders in Melbourne in March.

Supported by The Long Walk since 2005, The Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership was established as a vehicle for positive change in Victoria's Indigenous community. Through the provision of financial support, networking opportunities and professional development to appointed Fellows and Emerging Leaders, the Fellowship empowers Indigenous leaders to focus their drive and energy in areas of importance identified by Victoria's Indigenous community.

Jody Saxton-Barney has leadership experience in many industries and was the first deaf Aboriginal woman to present at local, state, national and international levels on the empowerment of of Aboriginal people with disabilities. Nathan Lovett- Murray intends to use the Emerging Leader role to develop international opportunities for his record label, Payback Records, which promotes hip hop as a way for young Indigenous people to express their culture and views.

Ian Anderson, director of Melbourne University's Murrup Barak Melbourne Institute for Indigenous Development, has been awarded the 2011 Fellow. The award will help Professor Anderson advance his work in indigenous health.
