The Long Walk lunches in Melbourne, Adelaide and Darwin in 2011
The Long Walk Women’s Luncheon will be held on Friday 14 October in Melbourne this year.
The Long Walk Women’s Luncheon is a popular celebration of Indigenous women’s achievement which also raises funds for The Long Walk’s Cultural Exchange program.
Held every year in Melbourne since 2005, the luncheon brings together over 750 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal women and supportive men to celebrate, network and engage. Since 2008 funds raised by the events support The Long Walk’s Urban and Rural Cultural Exchange between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Over its six year history, The Long Walk Women’s Luncheon has developed into a meaningful celebration which draws together distinct groups to offer a unique reconciliation experience. Event guests and speakers have included Governor General Quentin Bryce, Lowitja O’Donahue, Marcia Langton, Christine Anu and Kerry Arabena.
For the first time, 2011 will see the introduction of the event in Darwin and Adelaide. The Long Walk is excited to work with local communities to bring this popular event to these cities.
Melbourne Program:
The Melbourne luncheon will be MC’d by Pauline Whyman and guests will hear from the esteemed Rosalie Kunoth – Monks, Mayor of Barkly Shire, NT; Fay Ball, Cultural Educator, Koorie Heritage Trust and enjoy performances by the Sunshine Sisters (Emma Donovan, Jessie Lloyd and Deline Briscoe).

This year’s major raffle prize in Melbourne is a personal chef at home for eight people valued at $1,349. Click here for details.
Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards The Long Walk’s Indigenous Cultural Exchange Program – a program aimed at strengthening resilience through cultural exchange between urban and remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
