OUR PROGRAMS

Little Long Walks bring the spirit of Michael Long's 2004 walk to Canberra into your school or early learning centre. It's a way to celebrate and learn about First Nations Peoples and Cultures together, students, staff, families, the whole community.

A walk your whole community can take

A Little Long Walk is run by you, on your grounds, with support from us. A Long Walk Ambassador visits beforehand to set the scene, students make their own banners using Aboriginal symbols, and a Traditional Owner opens the day with a Welcome to Country. Then everyone walks together. It's hands-on, led by your community, and grounded in real cultural connection rather than a one-off assembly.

Want to show up and stand up like Michael? Lace up your shoes and host a Little Long Walk.

    1. An Ambassador visits

      In the lead-up to your walk, a Long Walk Ambassador delivers an information session. They share why Michael walked, what The Long Walk stands for, and why it still matters today.

    2. Students create their banners

      Students work with the Ambassador to design banners using Aboriginal symbols, telling their own stories and showing their support. These banners lead your walk on the day.

    3. Welcome to Country

      Before the walk begins, a Traditional Owner delivers a Welcome to Country and leads cultural activities.

    4. You walk

      Banners up, community together, your school takes its own Little Long Walk.

  • It brings First Nations history and culture into your community in a way students take part in, not just watch. Banner-making, walking together and learning directly from a Traditional Owner give staff, students and families a shared experience they remember, and a practical way to show their support.

  • Schools, community groups, early learning centres, local councils, sporting clubs, local businesses. Whether you're an early learning room a full school or a large organisation, the day scales to your community.
