Privacy Policy

Who We Are

This policy covers thelongwalk.com.au, operated by The Long Walk Trust (ABN 68 487 113 378), 32 Watson Drive, Melbourne Airport VIC 3045. Our online shop at shop.thelongwalk.com.au is governed by its own separate privacy policy, linked from that site.

We're committed to handling your personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), even where a small-business exemption may apply to us.

What We Collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Contact details — name, email, phone, postal address

  • Donation information — payment details (processed by Stripe via Raisely; we don't store your full card details ourselves), donation amount and frequency, and tax receipt information

  • Event and ticketing information — via Humanitix, Eventbrite or Raisely, embedded directly into our event pages, when you register or buy a ticket for an event or program, including payment details processed by these event ticketing platforms

  • Newsletter sign-up — your email address, via Sender.net, when you subscribe for updates

  • Form submissions — via Tally, for volunteer, partnership, or general enquiries

If you purchase merchandise through our shop at shop.thelongwalk.com.au, that transaction is covered by the shop's own privacy policy, not this one.

  • Website usage data — via Google Analytics and Google Search Console, including pages visited, general location, device and browser type

  • Social media interactions — if you engage with our Facebook or Instagram content linked from the site

We don't intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health information, or information about racial or ethnic origin) through the website. If you volunteer this in a form field (for example, a dietary requirement for an event), we'll only use it for the purpose you gave it.

How and Why We Use It

We use your information to:

  • Process donations and issue tax-deductible receipts

  • Register you for events and manage ticketing

  • Send newsletters and updates, where you've opted in

  • Respond to enquiries submitted through our forms

  • Understand how people use our site, to improve it

  • Meet our legal, accounting, and reporting obligations as a registered charity

We don't sell your personal information.

Cookies and Analytics

Our site uses cookies and similar technologies for essential site functions and to understand traffic, via Google Analytics and Google Search Console. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some site features may not work properly if you disable them.

Who We Share It With

We share personal information with the third-party platforms that help us run our operations, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy:

Purpose Provider
Website hosting Squarespace
Donations and payments Raisely, Stripe
Event ticketing and payments Humanitix, Eventbrite, Raisely
Email newsletters Sender.net
Forms and surveys Tally
Website analytics Google (Analytics, Search Console)
Email and file storage Microsoft 365

Our shop at shop.thelongwalk.com.au uses Shopify separately, and its data sharing is set out in that site's own privacy policy.

Overseas Disclosure

Some of these providers store or process data on servers located outside Australia (including Stripe, Humanitix, Google, and Microsoft). By using our site and services, you consent to this.

Data Security and Retention

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access. We retain information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law (for example, financial records for tax purposes).

Your Rights

You can ask us to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to stop sending you marketing emails (every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link). To do either, contact us using the details below.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can lodge a complaint with us first, and if unresolved, with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be posted on this page.
